The Reasy family business of septic tank pumping began in the early 1960’s when my grandfather, Elwood Reasy, a successful dairy farmer, was approached by a neighbor who inquired if Elwood could use his honey wagon to pump out his septic tank. A honey wagon is a farm accessory with a large tank primarily used for pumping liquid cow manure from the Reasy farm's underground storage tank and pulled with a tractor to spread and fertilize farm fields. After the venture was successful, word started to spread throughout the community, and more neighbors began asking for similar services. The demand grew steadily, prompting
Elwood to pass the workload onto his 13-year-old son, Clarence (Bud) Reasy, my dad. Dad took over the side job, charging a modest $15 per tank. What started as a small favor was quickly blossoming into a full-fledged business. Dad kept up with workload servicing the neighborhood with his tractor and honey wagon. He eventually took over the family farm and continued to operate the septic business and the farm simultaneously. As the septic demand continued to grow, dad saw the need for a more efficient replacement to the slow-moving tractor and honey wagon. He invested in a 1,000-gallon pump truck to keep up with the increasing demand and to provide faster, more reliable service. He then began operating the business under the farm name of Walnut Grove Farm. He eventually added a second truck with a 2,000-gallon tank to further improve efficiency, allowing him to pump two septic tanks before needing to empty. Dad occasionally relied on me to help with the increasing demand which now expanded into serving 6 townships. Around 2010, my brother took over the family dairy farm, allowing dad to focus primarily on the septic business. Over the years, I continued to help, when necessary, with a goal in mind to someday take over the septic business.

Now, at 74 years old and with over 60 years of service under his belt, dad has made the decision to retire. His two aging pump trucks, both over 35 years old, have far exceeded their life expectancy. With the new township regulations requiring homeowners to have their tanks pumped every 3-5 years and the increased demand, I, along with my son Kolton have decided to carry on the family business. We will be the third and fourth generations of the Reasy family but operating under a new name: Reasy’s Septic Service LLC. Focused on the future, we’ve made a critical investment into a new pump truck that is custom designed and built for dependability and maximum efficiency. It definitely will enable us a more reliable service to the community as well as a much larger service area, which will now include 25 townships throughout Bedford and Blair counties. With my years of septic pumping experience coupled with my 26 years of leadership and customer service experience, I know how important building trustworthy relationships with customers is to the success of a business. I will be focused full-time on the business, while working alongside my son Kolton. It will be an incredibly rewarding way to serve the community, friends and neighbors. We have strategically positioned ourselves for long term success and service to the community while building on a legacy of dedication, hard work and family values that stretches back more than six decades.
